This chicken in a Biskit recipe will leave you asking for more because they are deliciously tasty crackers flavored like buttery chicken.
This is a very versatile recipe, and it can be made with any cut of chicken, or even with turkey if you’d prefer. The only important thing is to use the right kind of flour. This is to help make the chicken crispy, and the biskits soft and chewy.
You can use any flavor of breadcrumbs, but the original is made with cheese. Some people like to use Kraft Cheese, and we also like to use crushed crackers.
Chicken In A Biskit Recipe – 1
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
- 2 tbsp powdered chicken bouillon
- 1½ teaspoons poultry seasoning
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- ½ cup crispy chicken skin bits – optional
- ½ cup frozen rendered chicken fat, cut in cubes (chicken fat softens quickly)
- 1¼ cup buttermilk, cold from the fridge
Directions:
Step 1: Melt
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning.
Step 2: Preheat the oven
Heat your oven up to 450 degrees F and place parchment paper on your baking sheet.
Step 3: Mix
Put all the remaining ingredients into a large bowl and whisk them to ensure they’re combined fully. Toss in bits of crispy chicken skin and mix once again, so they are evenly distributed.
Step 4: Cut the chicken fat
Cut the chicken fat into the flour using a pastry cutter or a butter knife. Add in buttermilk and mix thoroughly.
Step 5: Make your dough
Check your dough to see if it requires more flour. If it’s too wet, add some flour a tablespoon at a time until the consistency is right.
Place the dough on a well-floured surface and pat it into a thickness that you would like your biscuits to be – I’ve found that around 1/2 inch to 1 inch works best. You can make them round or square, but try not to manipulate them too much, so that it doesn’t affect the end result.
Step 6: Bake
Put your biscuits into your prepared baking dish and brush the tops with melted butter. Bake them for around 15 minutes, or until they have turned golden brown on the outside.
Step 7: Enjoy!
Serve them hot (or warm) with honey, butter, or another topping of your choice.
Something To Note:
If you have plans to make this chicken dish, save a good amount of chicken skin, or ask the butcher to reserve at least a pound of chicken skin for you. To make it as crispy as possible, spread the skin out thinly on a greased baking rack, and season with salt and pepper.
Bake them at 400 degrees F for at least 2o minutes, or until they get crispy and turn golden brown. You can also try using chopped French fried onions to give additional flavor. Allow them to cool and continue with the rest of the recipe.
